Salt Dough Candy Canes

Every year, I like to make some hand made ornaments for our tree. As the kids get older, they love to reminisce about the times when we made these together. Our first ornaments for this year are Salt Dough Candy Canes.

What you need:
1 cup flour
2 cups salt
1 cup water
red food coloring
Combine flour and salt and slowly add the water. You may not need all of the water. I then separated the dough into two equal parts and colored one part with red food coloring.

Roll equal parts of dough onto 5-6 inch strips.

Then twist the two parts together.
Form the twist into a candy cane and place on a microwave safe plate. Microwave in 30 second intervals for a total of 2-3 minutes.
Allow the candy canes to cool and tie a piece of ribbon around the top. Hang from your Christmas tree:)

  1. This is cute! I did a similar post today on my kidz blog but with pull taffy. I have yet to try it yet, maybe I'll do my ornaments this way. The taffy is kind of scaring me cuz I've never made it before. I would definitely need my mom's help!

  3. Very cute. I'll have to wait to make these with mine because I have no doubt that they would both only want to eat the salty dough!
