Our Earth Day Activities and Friday Book Project

We had a great day celebrating our Earth! I was very surprised about how much the little ones actually knew about pollution, recycling, and the importance of keeping the Earth clean! They were very excited to tell me all about ways that we can reuse things from around the house to cut down on our waste and how they can do their part to keep our Earth clean! One of the things that we have always done is to help keep our parks clean. Every time we go to the park, we make sure that we pick up trash that other people leave behind. The girls really get into this and take pride in their work! It really makes me proud too! (Now if they could just pick up their toys at home;0)

We did a few activities and sang some songs about the Earth!

These are the coffee filter Earth's that we made to remind us about our beautiful planet! They were  super easy to make!

 1. We painted the coffee filter with blue watercolors. We made our own using 2 tablespoons of water and 7-10 drops of food coloring!

2. We painted the land with green watercolor.

3. Allow them to dry!

I try to make a lot of our projects using recycled materials, so the kids are very familiar with reusing things like toilet/paper towel tubes, bottles, cans, and even cereal boxes. One way to reuse a cereal box is to make a puzzle out of it. So that is what we did!

For snack, we had another Earth inspired activity. We made Earth sugar cookies! I mixed up a batch of sugar cookie dough tinting some of it blue and some green.
We then grabbed a spoon full of blue dough and smooshed on a little of the green dough. Then we just rolled it into balls.
They turned out being a very tasty treat!

Now for our Friday Book Project! We read the book The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle!

Just like the story, this project started last Autumn. The girls gathered Marigold seeds with their Nana from the Marigolds that she had planted in her flower garden. We saved the seeds and planted them in an old egg carton. As they grow bigger, we will move them outdoors to our flower garden! The kids get very excited seeing things grow from seeds!

My Apologies....

As you can see, I have been a blog slacker once again. This past week has been very busy and so exhausting. As a result, I have spent much of this weekend with my feet up once again. I even forgot to post my Friday Book project and actually only wrote one post all week. Whew! I hope to catch a break soon, so I can catch up here. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, Aaron has PSSA testing for school. That means we have to get up early every day to get everyone out the door to drive to the testing place. Normally, I love doing this because there are a lot of great shopping places in that area, but I am far too exhausted to enjoy shopping. So, I'll catch up here as soon as I can. Thanks for sticking around! :0)

Tt-Turtle

It's time for the letter Tt! Turtle starts with T, so that's what Madelyn wanted to make!

1. Draw a turtle shell on a piece of construction paper.

2. Add a head, feet, and a tail.

3. Cut some scrap paper into small pieces.

4. Glue the cut up pieces on the turtle shell.

5. Add a T and your page is complete!

Friday Book Project-Ducklings Love

*Because today we have a very busy schedule, I decided to re-post a book project we did last year.
We chose a book that the girls got last Easter. It's called Ducklings Love by Lisa McCue! What says spring like a sweet little duckling? So of coarse, we made some ducklings with the girls teeny, tiny feet!

1. My favorite part, paint your child's foot with yellow paint.

2. Stamp them on a piece of construction paper.

3. We did this two times per paper.

4. Fill in the details, beaks, feet, eyes, grass, etc. There you have it! Some cute little ducklings made with your feet:0)

Have you done a book inspired activity with your child? Link it up!

My Week So Far

Just when things are moving along smoothly, life throws you a curve ball. Our weekend was busy, as most are for us. It was Michael's birthday on Saturday, so he spent much of the weekend with friends. Then Sunday rolled around and we had our usual Sunday school and church. Usually we visit with my grandfather on Sunday afternoon, but this weekend, we had some other things to take care of. It was candy making day! Every year our church has an Easter Egg Hunt for the community and we get to make the candy to give out as prizes! It's so much fun for the kids!
After candy making my Mom was taking us to Target to get Felicia's birthday present and an outfit for me to wear on Easter Sunday. Felicia was so excited! She loves to shop. As she was running to the car, she tripped and hit the bottom of the car and the pavement with her face. I was sure her nose was broken when she came back up! She was scraped from her chin to the bridge of her nose and she had a bloody mouth. Poor kid! Add that to the black eye she got last week from getting hit with the door and she looked like she was in a horrible fight! Thankfully, it looked a lot worse than it actually was and she is feeling much better now!

Monday, Felicia celebrated her 6th birthday! She walked a lot taller that day, as she said she felt bigger! ;0)

Monday was also the day that I woke up and my computer would not turn on! Do you know how crazy I was? My computer is my lifeline to the outside world! I know, that sounds pathetic, but it's true! I felt so isolated! But, it happened at a good time, because my body started telling me it was time to slow down and relax! My aches and pains became more than I could handle and I my exhaustion level was at an all time high! So, I took the last few days to just put my feet up and relax. It has helped somewhat, but I now know that I really need to take it easy. Last night, Mike surprised me by buying a new computer. He had been out looking for the part to fix the old one, with no luck, so he decided that it was time for a whole new computer. (the other one was old and slow!) So, I am happy to say that I am back and feeling connected again!

Tomorrow will be another busy day, preparing for Easter, coloring eggs for the church Easter egg hunt, and a visit with my midwife. Hopefully, I can squeeze some time in to put my feet up and rest! How has your week been so far?
