Baby Leg Warmers Tutorial

Stella modeling her new leg warmers

Let me start off by mentioning, that I am in no way a seamstress or anywhere even near that. I took a sewing class in 9th grade and haven't touched a sewing machine since. But, I had heard that you can make baby leg warmers using knee socks, so I thought I would give it a try.

To get started you will need a pair of knee socks.

Cut the foot part off the socks. I actually saved the foot and now I have some cute ankle socks. The big girls each claimed a pair.

Turn them inside out and fold the cut edge over.

Now, you can either hand sew (which I did with the first pair I made) or machine sew the folded edge down.

After they are turned right side out, they are ready to wear!
I made two pair today and I think they turned out great. They were so easy and took only a few minutes. The first pair I hand sewed so it took a bit longer. But the second, I had my Mom do on her sewing machine and they were done in a snap!

Here is the finished product on Stella! Aren't they cute?! The best part, the socks were only $1.00 a pair! I now have 2 pair of leg warmers and 2 pair of ankle socks for only $2.00!

  3. Did you use womans or girls knee socks? Ive been wanting to make some of these for my son but have not been able to find any sort of masculine knee socks that are in the girls section. I have found some that could be boyish but they are womans...wasnt sure if that would work ??? THANKS!!!

  4. Great idea to make your own. I love the twins in baby leg warmers, but they are sneaky about taking them off - and fast about it too!
