Easy Two Ingredient Slime

Happy Monday! I cannot express enough how much we needed this extra day off. It turned out that Mike had the weekend off as well (which is very rare), so we just had a well earned "lazy" weekend. We spent the weekend mostly hanging out at home watching movies and football. It was perfect!

Today, the girls wanted to make one of their favorite things...slime! It's super easy! You only need 2-ingredients: liquid starch and glue. Of course, my girls like it to sparkle, so we use glitter glue.

Just mix equal parts glitter glue and liquid starch. At first it seems too runny and messy, but after a few minutes, something magical happens and it turns into slime. Honestly, I don't know how something so simple can keep these girls entertained for so long, but it works!

Stella's favorite thing to do is put a straw in the slime and blow bubbles.

Colored Spaghetti Scissor Practice

Lately I have been working extra hard to entertain Stella with activities that we can do indoors while the weather is bad. It's not always easy. She wants to be outside, as do I. This activity kept her entertained for a decent amount of time. I'll take that! 

{You will need}
spaghetti
food coloring
vegetable oil
ziplock bags

Boil the spaghetti, drain it and allow it to cool. Separate the spaghetti in ziplock bags, add few teaspoons of oil and several drops of food coloring. Shake the bags until the noodles are all colored. Now you're ready to play! Stella used tongs, spoons, and bowls to play, but her favorite thing to do with it was to cut it with scissors. 

She's always thrilled when she can cut things! Obviously you will want to supervise your child if they are using scissors. This is definitely something we'll be doing again, I'm sure!

Pinecone Painting

We are having another rainy day here today and to be honest, I have been slacking in the fun department lately, so what better way to liven things up than doing a messy project. I’ve done this with the big kids in the past and it was always a hit, so I thought I would let Stella have a crack at it.

Stella always loves getting into her art! But no worries here, all of the paint we use is non-toxic so even if she does taste it, she’ll be fine.

Painting with Pudding

This morning was not looking like it was going to be a good day. We woke up to rain and a grocery trip looming and to be frank, I was grouchy. I guess we all have rainy days, but thankfully ours turned around and ended with a rainbow.

I mixed up some pudding and added a rainbow of food coloring for Stella to paint with. (and eat!)

She got right into it and couldn’t eat paint  fast enough.

I fully intended to do another, more age appropriate, activity with the big girls, but they saw how much fun Stella was having, they wanted to join her.

Their favorite part, of course, licking their fingers between colors!

Homemade Sidewalk Paint

My girls love to paint on anything they can and that includes the sidewalks surrounding our house. The recipe for this paint couldn’t be simpler: 1/4 cup cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup of water and some food coloring. Super simple and tons of fun!

When the paint dries it looks just like it would if it was drawn with sidewalk chalk and it washes away with water!

Playing with Shaving Cream

We didn't make it to Church again this morning because Stella had a fever when she woke up and it's raining buckets outside, so we decided to have some indoor fun. Messy fun of course, because it's the best kind of fun to have!

We even added a little food coloring, which I don't really recommend because the girls still have purple fingers. Other than that, it was tons of fun! They practiced their letters, a few words, and made dishes of "ice cream". Fun, fun!

Messy Fun-Yogurt Fingerpainting

It's no secret that Stella loves to paint and she also enjoys playing with her food, so this was the perfect activity for her. Very simply, I added a few drops of food coloring to some vanilla yogurt and made some very tasty edible paint.

She painted, she ate, she created another masterpiece!

This is perfect for a first painting experience or for big kids too.

Igloos, Polar Bears, and Ice Skating Painting

Today we are having our second snow day in a row. Actually, with Martin Luther King Day on Monday, we haven't had school since last Friday! It's been nice lounging around in our jammies and watching movies all day, but the little kids are really starting to get bored. So, today we decided to embrace the ice around us and do some more winter crafts.

 Our first project of the day was igloos! Theses were super simple, but my girls love anything involving glue so they had fun making them. Just draw the basic igloo shape and they can glue on squares of white paper.

Next we made some hand print polar bears.

And last, we had some good old messy fun. We "ice skated" with our fingers! Just a little white paint on some foil and lots of fun!

The girls were a little bummed because it has been too icy to go outside to play, but these activities kept them busy for awhile. Hopefully tomorrow we will be back to our normal schedule!

Some Major Construction Going on Here!

For a few weeks now, the girls have been begging to make a Gingerbread House. I thought it would be a fun activity to do, so we decided to get a kit at Wal-Mart. That way, all we would have to do was assemble it and decorate. So, off to Wal-Mart we went, which by the way, made me remember why I did most of my Christmas shopping online! That place was like a zoo! 

We actually found a kit that contained several different houses, to create a village. That way, the girls would have their own house and if any of the boys wanted to do one, they could. They didn't want to, btw! {lol} It was a good thing that we did buy the village, because a few of our pieces were broken. : ( Thankfully, we had enough to make 2 complete houses.

 It was very......sticky and lots of fun too! They were both very proud of their creations! The only problem, I think they may have had a week's worth of sugar from all the frosting licking and I am pretty sure they will be bouncing off the walls for the next few hours!

Messy Fun :: Magic Muck

Making messes is part of being a kid, right? Well then, it must be true, I am just a big kid! I love doing messy activities with my kids and they never shy away from getting a "little" dirty, so this activity was perfect. Magic Muck is a very simple concoction made by mixing equal parts cornstarch and water.
