Crafting with Felicia {Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly}

This past Monday, you may remember, I was *waving* my white flag at Mother Nature. It was one of those days where I was just not feeling well, combined with a snow day that was filled with freezing rain that made it impossible for the kids to get out and play. As a result, we had LOTS of bickering and one very grouchy momma. I was in no mood to organize anything crafty. Especially a craft that required me to clean up after. That's when Felicia took over. She promised to do a craft with her sisters AND clean up the resulting mess! Believe me,  my expectations were not so high, considering Felicia tends to be on the mess side and not always willing to clean up. But, I let her go and this is what she came up with:
toilet paper roll butterfly
Pretty good if I do say so myself and she actually DID clean up the mess! She even asked if I wanted her to wash Stella's shirt because she got some paint on it!

*Waving* the White Flag

It's official.
I've had enough.
We awoke to another snowy scene this morning.
Along with freezing rain...and no school.
If I make it through this day with my sanity intact...it WILL be a miracle.
I think poor Lucy is in agreement here.
She heads directly to the bench so she has a roof over her head when she does her business.
So please Mother Nature, sends us some warm, dry weather soon!

Move it!

My goal for the week to get off my butt and get moving has turned out to be fun! The weather here, for the most part, has been FREEZING, so the Wii has become my main source of exercise. I may look like a fool while I'm doing it, but I can feel it working! Although, I am looking forward to spring and warmer temperatures so that I can get out and start walking again.

Goal of the week: No more junk food! (or at least cut down on junk)

Snow Day

Goal of the Week-More Water

Last week I started working toward some goals that I would like to reach. The main one, living a more healthy life! My goal for the week was to drink more water. This may seem pretty simple, but I am a Diet Pepsi addict! The first few days were rough! Not having large amounts of caffeine in my system made me grouchy and the headaches...not cool! After getting over the initial shock to my system, I am proud to say that I have had nothing to drink but water!

**************************************************
Goal of the week: Get moving! I need to get up out of my chair and stop being so lazy!
**************************************************

I've actually started working on this goal! I want to be more active for my kids AND with my kids! We've been shaking our booties playing Just Dance. Making a fool of myself is quite fun! ;)

Off to School

Our morning went surprisingly smooth today. Only to be stuck behind a big truck going about 15 mph up the hill on the way to school. I guess you can't win 'em all!

Under the Weather

Stella, asleep on my lap.

Goals...and Working to Achieve Them

In the past I have made some New Year's Resolutions and failed miserably. This year, I decided to make some changes that will hopefully change my life for the better. I purposely did not start this at the beginning of the year, or month, or even week. In the past, if I got off track, I always waited for another beginning of the week or month to get back on track. Not anymore! Everyday is a good day to work on my goals even if a have a few stumbles along the way, tomorrow is a new day.

A few things I'm working on:
1. Saving money. Yesterday, I had a moment of panic about bills. I worried about whether or not I should leave my life as a stay at home mom behind and go back to work. I know I'm not alone in my worries as many families face this same issue. After weighing the pros and cons, I have decided that I am going to continue to remain home for my kids. I just need to be more diligent with our finances.

2. Clearing out the clutter and getting more organized. Lately I have been feeling like our house is shrinking. Time to fix that!

3. More quality family time! The girls have asked to have family game night and we have been doing that. It's been fun!

4. Living healthier! I've gained some weight and that is not okay! Some of it can be blamed on my cancer meds, but a lot of it has to do with my poor food choices and just plain laziness. I plan to make myself accountable for my choices by posting a goal for each week. I did this in the past and it actually worked, so I am hoping it works for me again!

Have you recently set any new goals for yourself? I'd love to hear about them!

Muffin Tin Monday {Taco Night}

We've had taco night for Muffin Tin Monday in the past and it was always a success. I'm not one to mess with perfection so we had it again tonight! I was not at all surprised when the girls squealed with delight when I asked them to pull out the muffin tins. Here's what they had:

sour cream, lettuce, black olives, cheese, salsa,
tomatoes, taco sauce,  and seasoned beef

My Little Chef

Stella helped mash some bananas for banana bread today. You can find the recipe here.

Banana Bread Recipe

You will need:
  •  2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  •  1/2 cup butter
  •  3/4 cup brown sugar
  •  2 eggs
  •  2 cups of mashed banana (Tip: If you don't have enough bananas, you can add applesauce to make up the difference. I had to do that today and it was still delicious!)
  •  1 teaspoon vanilla
  •  1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
My banana masher.
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan.
  2.  Combine flour, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Stir in the eggs, mashed banana, vanilla and cinnamon until well blended. Add the flour mixture and mix, by hand, until it's just moistened. Pour batter into pan.
  3.  Bake for 1 hour @350. Allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before removing from pan.

Think BEFORE You "Facebook"

Over the last few days, I have been a witness to some not so nice things being posted on Facebook. Unprovoked and just downright hurtful. I'm not sure what motivates people to be so hateful, but it really needs to stop. If publicly humiliating someone makes you feel better, then I believe the real problem lies within YOU! So please, THINK before you FACEBOOK!

Girly Things

Having first had three boys, I wasn't sure I would ever see the day that my house would be filled with girly things. Lucky for me, we also had three girls! Thanks to my sister, +Diane, for all the great girlie gifts she bought for Felicia and Madelyn! We've been having lots of makeover days!

Doggie Snuggles

Hooters Girl

Felicia was all giggly when she pulled this picture she drew out of her folder from school. It went along with a story about our summer trip to Ocean City and her brothers love of dining at Hooters. (She has actually NOT been to Hooters before!) As you can see, there is Brandon, calling over a Hooters girls, not a hooker as it appears in the caption. I'm not sure if the picture depicts her actual "hooters", I was afraid to ask! This should make for an interesting parent teacher conference next time around...awkward!

BTW: In case you were wondering, she got a good grade on the story!

Alert the Tooth Fairy!

Foot Print Penguin Craft

We were lucky enough to have the white Christmas that we had been dreaming of, unfortunately we have now been hit with a blast of cold. Brrr! It's the perfect weather if you're a penguin! So today we decided to stay inside and make foot print penguins and read a few books instead of playing outside in the snow and cold.

What you will need to make your own foot print penguin:
white paper
a scrap of orange paper for the beak
black paint
wiggly eyes
a foot (of course)

First, you'll need to paint only the outside edge of the foot, leaving the center free of paint. Press the foot down on the piece of white paper making sure the sides touch. Then, add the details (wings, eyes, and a beak).
Chill out and read some penguin books while it dries!

After ours dried, I cut it out and glued it to a piece of blue construction paper before hanging it up.
