Happy Halloween

 These days, we have been working really hard to try to make life as normal as possible. Twenty-twenty has really seemed like one big trick! Am I right? Halloween has always been a favorite holiday for us and even though the scariest ghoul around is COVID 19, we still were able to have some fun trick or treating. Stella dressed as her favorite Addams, Wednesday. We all wore masks, and ventured out into our tiny town for some treats. It was a good time!

Happy Halloween, friends! I hope your night was as treat filled and fun as ours was. Trick or treat night on a school night always seems super rushed and the morning after "candy hangover" is no joke! But, it's all a good time and we love Halloween! Our theme this year was kind of spooky and sweet! 

The Sweet

Stella dressed up as her idol...Jojo Siwa! 

 She loves anything pink, sparkly, and with big bows. Jojo is her spirit animal!

We even squeezed in a little pumpkin carving between dinner and trick or treating. Fun times!

The Spooky

Aaron and Madelyn decided to stay home and hand out candy with a few friends. They went with lots of blood and gore. Gross! Aaron's face had huge bloody gash and in the end, he looked like he had been charred. Taking all that off was so much fun! 

Hopefully they didn't cause any nightmares!

No pictures of Felicia this year. Although she didn't really dress up, she did go around town collecting treats with her friends, so she did still have a good time!

Halloween 2018 is now in the books! Is it too soon to put my Christmas tree up?

Trick or Treat

Another Halloween has come and gone and it was all treats and no tricks for us! While Stella is still all in for trick or treating, Felicia and Madelyn had decided they no longer wanted to go. However, after school yesterday, they both changed their minds! A little makeup and a few props later, they were all set to go. It was a good night for all!

"Happier" Halloween

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Actually, I love all things fall! We've crammed a lot of fun fall activities into the last few days and some did not exactly go as well as planned. I was really hoping that three happy girls got of the bus this afternoon, because trick or treat night had arrived. Thankfully, there were no grouches...just Batman, a cat, and a mouse (duh)!

While the big girls planned to go with friends, Stella and I were heading out alone for some treats.

Trick or Treat

Halloween has come and gone and our sugar high is over. We had a great time trick or treating, enjoyed the Halloween parade, and had our fill of spooky movies. The weather was perfect for both trick or treating and the parade. Although the boys have outgrown the fun of Halloween (except for the candy eating), the girls still really enjoy it!

Two Ghouls, a Bug, and a Witch Named Sandy

The scariest part of our week so far was a witch named "Sandy". Not knowing what she had in store for us and waiting for her to arrive was a bit unnerving. The kids had no school on Monday and Tuesday while we weathered the storm and in the end, we had lots of rain and only a little bit of wind. We were lucky. Many were not so lucky and we are praying for those who have lost so much. Sandy was one mean witch!

Wednesday brought us to some Halloween fun. The girls had a Girl Scout party and then we trekked through town (in the rain) for some trick or treating. It was cold...and wet...and fun.

These are my ghoulish girls, Felicia and Madelyn. They have now passed the age of dressing up as princesses and have moved on to the dark side. 

 

Stella, on the other hand, can still be dressed in something sweet and cute. A ladybug is what she was. Although if you ask her, she will tell you she was a bed bug. If all bed bugs were so cute, everyone would want them!

The Halloween Festivities of 2010

Today is the third and final day of the SITS Halloween celebration for a chance to win a Canon Rebel T2i. The theme for today is Halloween Parade. It's our chance to share how we celebrated Halloween, what costumes we wore or dressed our kids in.

We had a very busy Halloween weekend full of fun, family, and way too much candy! Our trick or treat night was actually on Thursday. It was just the three girls this year, because the boys are just way too cool to go out begging for candy. Although, they didn't have a problem begging their sisters for some when they got home! Felicia was a cowgirl, with pink accessories of course! Madelyn was a fairy, also pink. And for Stella's first Halloween, she wore her pumpkin shirt and candy corn hair bow. Saturday night was our town's annual Halloween parade. More candy! We had a nice little get together with family and had a blast with the kids at the parade. I didn't dress up this year, but when I saw how cute my oldest son Michael and his girlfriend looked as Pebbles and Bam-Bam, I decided that next year Mike and I are definitely dressing up. Of course I haven't told him yet!

Halloween Craftiness

Create a Ghostly Glow

Halloween decorating is so much spookier when there are flickering candles around. Here is a fun candle holder that you can make to create a Ghostly Glow!

Let's get started!

My kids love tearing up paper!

This might get a little sticky!

Cover the entire jar with tissue paper!

When it's completely covered, allow your jar to dry. After that, you can draw a ghost face and add a candle. We used the same technique to make Jack O' Lanterns as well!

Halloween Photos

Well despite Felicia's tummy ache, she wanted to get her costume on for Halloween, so here they are, Dorothy and the "Wicked" witch. Dorothy looks pretty good for a little girl who vomited about a dozen times today and Madelyn really worked her witch costume too. Nana's coming to take Mady and Aaron to the church "Light the Night" gathering and Felicia is going to stay home with me to hand out candy.


This scary dude is Aaron as Jason. They just get to that age when you can no longer dress them in cute kiddie costumes and then you get this. Oh well, it's all about fun for them.

Egg Carton Bats

Here is an easy bat project to do for Halloween.


For this project you will need: an egg carton, black paint and googly eyes.

First cut the egg carton down to just three sections. Cut the two end sections to resemble wings.

Put on a paint shirt and paint it black. I sure am glad I put paint shirts on the girls today. Though we paint an awful lot I think sometimes Mady can not control herself. Today was one of those days. I decided to do the dishes while they painted and when I turned around Mady painted all the way up to her elbows. Solid black. Thank God kids are washable:)


Last I added eyes and a pipe cleaner to hang it. I kept ours pretty simple, but you could add some fangs if you wanted to.

Salt Dough Ghosts

I found these ghosts and I just knew I had to do them. They were a little hard for the little girls to do, but Aaron really enjoyed doing this project. You can find the instructions here.

Torn Paper Candy Corn

These candy corn are very simple just like our torn paper Jack O' Lanterns. We can't have Halloween without candy corn!

First, have your child tear pieces of orange, white, and yellow paper. While they tear the paper, cut out the candy corn shape to glue the pieces on.

Next, divide the candy corn into sections and color the areas as a guide for your child to glue on. Then, allow your child to fill in those areas with the torn paper.

Now you have a very sweet candy corn without the sugar rush:)

Handprint Spiders

Spiders can be adorable! As long as they are made from your little one's hand prints and not crawling around your house.

For the first step of this project, we did some marble painting to create the look of a spider's web.

I then painted the kid's hands, except for the thumb.

Press your child's hand on the paper.

Paint the other hand as well and press it on the paper facing the opposite direction.

Last, we added reinforcement labels for the eyes. Aren't they sweet?

Torn Paper Jack o' Lanterns

This is a simple project and a fun alternative to paint.

You will need: paper plates, construction paper, and glue

The fun begins with the tearing of the paper (remember to stick your tongue out like Mady).

Next, glue the pieces of paper to the paper plate.

Now add eyes, a nose, a mouth, a leaf, and a stem.

Here are the finished Jack o' Lanterns!

Footprint Ghosts

I know it may be a little early to decorate for Halloween, but I love it so much that I just can't wait any longer. Every year since my kids were little, I have made these adorable ghosts with their feet.

1. Paint the bottom of your child's foot. It must be done with a paint brush because that is what causes the most giggles:)

2.Press your child's foot down on black construction.

3.Add some eyes and a mouth. Now, you have the cutest little ghosts ever.
