Easy Two Ingredient Slime

Happy Monday! I cannot express enough how much we needed this extra day off. It turned out that Mike had the weekend off as well (which is very rare), so we just had a well earned "lazy" weekend. We spent the weekend mostly hanging out at home watching movies and football. It was perfect!

Today, the girls wanted to make one of their favorite things...slime! It's super easy! You only need 2-ingredients: liquid starch and glue. Of course, my girls like it to sparkle, so we use glitter glue.

Just mix equal parts glitter glue and liquid starch. At first it seems too runny and messy, but after a few minutes, something magical happens and it turns into slime. Honestly, I don't know how something so simple can keep these girls entertained for so long, but it works!

Stella's favorite thing to do is put a straw in the slime and blow bubbles.

O is for Owl

I am in love with owls! So when Stella asked to do letter O for our next alphabet page, I knew right away what we would make.

Making our owl was simple. I cut out the parts:

F is for Foot

What could be easier than a foot print for our letter F page? Stella loves having her feet painted, so this was perfect for her! We'll be sharing more alphabet pages soon. 

 

I is for Igloo

We are still feeling the arctic blast around here, so an igloo seemed like the perfect thing to make for our letter I page.

I traced out the shape of the igloo and Stella glued on some small rectangles that we cut from white paper. Super simple!

 

H is for Hearts

Valentine's Day gave us the idea for this page in our alphabet book! Stella painted some cookie cutter prints and then added an H and a few heart stickers. 

 

S is for Snowman

Stella and I have finally gotten busy making her Alphabet Book. This time around I've decided instead of working alphabetically, we will be jumping around and because the theme of our week appears to be snow (we're on our second snow day this week!), our first letter is S for SNOWMAN!

 To make the "snow" for our snowman, we used a hole punch and white paper. The big girls are always wanting to use it, so they were a big help.

I spread the glue around for the snowman and Stella's job was to add the snow and other details.

Alphabet Book {Take 2}

Those of you that have been readers of Moments of Mommyhood for a while may remember the Alphabet Book that I made with Madelyn and Felicia several years ago. We made a page for every letter of the alphabet and put them together in a binder. While we still have that book, I thought it would be fun to create a new book with Stella. I plan to get started on it next week! We are hoping to do a letter a day which should help keep us busy while we are stuck inside from the cold. Blah!

 

Coffee Filter Butterflies

We've been spending a lot of time outdoors lately and Stella is quite intrigued by bugs. So, I thought it was the perfect time to make a few of our own. Today we started with butterflies! Coffee filter butterflies are one of those classic crafts that I think everyone has made a one time or another. They are a favorite here!

You will need:

• coffee filters
• washable markers
• a spray bottle filled with water
• chenille stems 

First, color the coffee filter (the more color the better it will turn out). Next, spray the coffee filter generously with water. Finally (when it's dry), fold the filter accordion style and wrap the chenille stem around the middle, bending it to form antennae. Finished!

 

Monster Valentine Box

 For quite some time now, Pinterest has been my "go-to" place for inspiration. There are so many talented crafters, bakers, decorators, and teachers out there and to have them all in one place is genius! Lately, Felicia has taken an interest in Pinterest as well. She'll search for crafts or birthday party ideas or whatever else she's looking to get her crafty hands into. It was no surprise when she asked if she could search for an idea for her Valentine box. I wanted to make an owl, but it was her project so I let her choose and she wanted to make this monster box from Giggles Galore.

So, I present to you, Felicia's Monster Box:

 

She finished it last night and  I think it turned out great! She's very proud of her work!

 

Crafting with Felicia {Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly}

This past Monday, you may remember, I was *waving* my white flag at Mother Nature. It was one of those days where I was just not feeling well, combined with a snow day that was filled with freezing rain that made it impossible for the kids to get out and play. As a result, we had LOTS of bickering and one very grouchy momma. I was in no mood to organize anything crafty. Especially a craft that required me to clean up after. That's when Felicia took over. She promised to do a craft with her sisters AND clean up the resulting mess! Believe me,  my expectations were not so high, considering Felicia tends to be on the mess side and not always willing to clean up. But, I let her go and this is what she came up with:

 Pretty good if I do say so myself and she actually DID clean up the mess! She even asked if I wanted her to wash Stella's shirt because she got some paint on it!

Foot Print Penguin Craft

We were lucky enough to have the white Christmas that we had been dreaming of, unfortunately we have now been hit with a blast of cold. Brrr! It's the perfect weather if you're a penguin! So today we decided to stay inside and make foot print penguins and read a few books instead of playing outside in the snow and cold.

What you will need to make your own foot print penguin:
white paper
a scrap of orange paper for the beak
black paint
wiggly eyes
a foot (of course)

First, you'll need to paint only the outside edge of the foot, leaving the center free of paint. Press the foot down on the piece of white paper making sure the sides touch. Then, add the details (wings, eyes, and a beak).

  Chill out and read some penguin books while it dries!

After ours dried, I cut it out and glued it to a piece of blue construction paper before hanging it up.

 

Stained Glass Ornaments {Day 9}

Making ornaments has always been a big deal for the kids. In the past, we baked salt dough ornaments and keepsake ornaments with their hand prints. Last year, after Christmas I found these Stained Glass Ornaments on clearance so I snatched them up and tucked them away for this year.

The girls have pulled them out several time throughout the year and asked to make them, but I kept telling them they had to wait! So finally the time had come to make them and they were excited...maybe too excited. They are not something that can be hurried. The beads are tiny and the spaces to fill are not very big either. It's delicate work!

Madelyn had just finished hers when Felicia bumped the tray and she had to start all over again. Felicia was upset and gave up.

But in the end, she was happy to see them finished. 

Even though the girls had a few moments of frustration while making them, they did turn out quite nice!

Snowflakes {Day 7}

 Every year we haul out a pile of coffee filters, scissors and liquid starch and cover our windows with paper snowflakes. Felicia has especially taken a liking to this activity and has been making a "blizzard" of snowflakes! (I guess she'll stop when she runs out of coffee filters) You can learn how to make them here and if you would like to to turn them into a nice gift, check out this post.

Toilet Paper Roll Snowman {Day 5}

We've recently had a few unseasonably warm days, but we are still holding out hope for a white Christmas. However, if Mother Nature fails us, we can still have a cute snowman!

   Just grab a toilet paper roll and paint it white. While it's drying, braid a few strands of yarn to make a scarf. After the paint is dry, draw a face on your snowman.

Add a hat and the scarf and you have yourself a sweet little snowman!

Cookie Cutter Prints {Day 4}

Painting with cookie cutters is such a simple and fun way to decorate for Christmas. Felicia and Madelyn made these to hang on the wall, but you can use the same technique to make your very own wrapping paper! Just print on some freezer paper. Easy peasy!

Handprint Reindeer~Countdown to Christmas {Day 3}

Tonight we made a classic craft, hand print reindeer, while watching a classic movie, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I can't believe that a movie I enjoyed as a little girl is now a favorite of my own kids. I also can't believe that I have been making hand print reindeer with my own kids for almost 20 years! It just doesn't seem possible!

Frank and Jack

Paper plates are one of my favorite materials to use when making crafts with toddlers. They make a sturdy surface to paint and glue on and we always have some hanging around. 

For "Frank", Stella painted the plate green and I cut the top to make his flat head. I then put some glue on for Stella to add the eyes and other parts that I cut from construction paper. Easy peasy!

"Jack" was made the same way only this time, I let Stella use a glue stick to attach the face. I don't often let her use a glue stick because sometimes, she likes to use it as lipstick. But, this time she DIDN'T glue her lips together.

 

Apple Print Wreath

Apple printing is a staple in our fall crafting. The kids look forward to doing it every year. So, even though we have already done a few apples crafts this year, there was no way we were going to skip this favorite. Instead of the apple print trees we made in the past, we made a wreath.

 Older kids could easily do apple prints without overlapping them, Stella could not, So I gave her some paper and she did her own freestyle apple prints. That worked out great as she is always happy to do her own thing!

While Stella happily got onto her work, I printed apples in red and green. After they were dry, I added stems and cut them out. Then it was Stella's turn once again. She glued the apples around the base of our wreath (a paper plate with the center cut out).

I added a bow and we have a finished wreath!

Hand Print Apples in a Basket

It's really beginning to feel fall-like around here. So, sticking with that theme, we made a basket of apples today!

 
Start off by painting the palm of your child's hand and printing it several times on a piece of construction paper. Add some stems and leaves.

 
Next, I cut strips of brown paper to create a basket covering the apples. Older kids could weave this, but Stella is just 2 so I just applied the glue and let her stick the strips to it. After she placed the strips on, I cut the ends off to make it look more like a basket. It's finished!

Hand Print and Button Apple Tree

With the big kids back to school, Stella has been begging to do something crafty. The girl loves to paint so to avoid another disaster like this one, I decided to make an apple tree with her.

I painted a tree trunk on a piece of construction paper and added some leaves with Stella's hand prints. Then, she glued on some buttons for the apples. Easy as pie!

Although we did ours on construction paper, how cute would this be on fabric with the buttons sewed on? I could see it on a cute tote bag. Hmm...maybe another day.
